HOLLOW SUNSHINE vinyl in! +THOU cassette represses and heavy distro items

November 05, 2013

We’re massively stoked to announce that the debut longplayer by HOLLOW SUNSHINE, Held Above, is now available and Pitchfork has dropped the title track song premier, proclaiming it “a sublime slice of downer pop”.

For the uninitiated, HOLLOW SUNSHINE are a California duo who combine deep tuning with pop undertones and a garage din, crafting a unique combination of warmly familiar elements. The hypnotic swirl of lush vocals hovering over downtuned riffs and steady rhythms yield a mesmerizing listening experience.

Held Above exists within a delicate balance between blown out sludge, narcotic drone and pop sensibilities. Yet this contrast between heaviness and catchiness, with melodic vocals providing a calm and consistent drift throughout, sets HOLLOW SUNSHINE well apart from contemporaries.

The nine tracks of Held Above were self-recorded by the band, vocalist Morgan Enos and guitarist / songwriter Reuben Sawyer, then mastered by James Plotkin, aiming for a soothing “lo” fidelity with clarity kept in mind. This album should appeal to varied fans of everything from TORCHE and JESU to BUILT TO SPILL and SMASHING PUMPKINS.

A visual artist renowned for his work via Rainbath Visual (CHELSEA WOLFE, DEAFHEAVEN, DESTRUCTION UNIT etc etc), Sawyer also conceived the stark imagery for the cover, which is screen-printed on complimentary colored paper by Broken Press. 700 copies of HOLLOW SUNSHINE‘s debut LP were made in the first pressing:

* 100 pink (includes a bonus back-patch)
* 200 white
* 400 black

With a high-quality digital download included, Held Above can now be ordered from the following locations:
